Christine Burton Weekend Workshops
Starting out with Crewel embroidery Christine has since gone on to learn numerous embroidery techniques from tutors in Australia and America and in 2019 completed the Certificate in Technical Hand Embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework in London. A member of numerous stitching groups, Christine also regularly exhibits her work at local events and teaches at the Embroiderer’s Guild of Victoria across the state and at various embroidery shops around Melbourne. Her work has also been published in ‘Inspirations’ embroidery magazine. Awarded the Ethel Oates Scholarship by the Embroiderer’s Guild in 2017, Christine has most recently focused on historic 17th-century embroidery techniques, in particular, Blackwork, Stumpwork, Crewel, and Goldwork and enjoys sharing these skills with today’s needleworkers.

Workshop: $90
Creative Stitching with Catherine Howell
Catherine’s beautiful designs cover a variety of styles from contemporary to whimsical. Divine Diva’s, Crewel Embroidery Baby Blankets and Sewing compendiums. All fun and colourful to create. You can make any of her designs in class or bring your own design. Small classes make for a great environment to stitch and learn. A light lunch and morning & afternoon tea are provided. Catherine’s standard workshops will be held on the second Saturday of each month.

We are excited to welcome Taetia McEwen back to the Embroidery Den. After a childhood filled with beautiful books and a rambling garden, Taetia’s designs are inspired by nature and brimming with whimsy.
Get started on The Rock Wallabies, or continue your project from prior workshops. Suitable for all skill levels.
Stumpwork & Goldwork with Jane Nicholas
We are delighted to announce that Jane Nicholas will be returning to the Den to hold a workshops in 2025. This year Jane will be teaching 2 designs, the Medieval Letters and the Virginia Creeper with Initial and/or Dragonfly.
Partial Kit: $85 (Coloured leather options)
Partial Kit: $90 (Gold leather option)
The Virginia Creeper design showcases the various stages of development of the leaves, blossoms and fruits of the Virginia Creeper vine, which frame a central embroidered initial. A Stumpwork dragonfly with raised wings and detached abdomen hovers over the initial. This project can be worked with both the Initial AND Dragonfly, or with only the Initial OR Dragonfly. Suitable for all skill levels.

Miniature Tapestry, Basket Weaving & Scrappy Rag Dolls with Sue Traylen
We are pleased to announce the return of Sue Traylen to the Embroidery Den.
Sue Traylen is a Textile Artist specializing in Miniature Tapestry and Basket Weaving and other Textile Arts. Let Sue guide you through the process of weaving in miniature as you explore your own creative design ideas, or create your own adorable Scrappy Rag Doll.
